Wawu Mountain
Wawu Mountain, also called Shushan or Great Wawu, lies in Wawushan Town in the southwest of Hongya County, Sichuan, its summit at about 2,830 m. The massif is a ridge-shaped tableland that tilts gently to east and west, its flat crown ringed by sheer cliffs; seen from afar the whole mountain resembles a tiled roof, which gives it its name. It is a rare example of mesa, or table-top mountain, landform in China. A national forest park protects its forests, and in 2019 the scenic area was rated a national 4A tourist attraction. Within it lies a forbidden spot called Mihundang, the maze of lost souls, so confusing and hard to escape that it has been dubbed the Bermuda of the land; it remains untouched, adding an air of mystery to this flat-topped peak.
