Privacy Policy

This policy explains what happens to data when you use AnyTerrain. It reflects the current version of the service, which has no user accounts and no billing.

Last updated: 2026-10-18

Overview

AnyTerrain (the “Service”) is a browser-based tool for generating downloadable 3D terrain models from public elevation data. This policy covers any-terrain.easrc.com and the pages served from it.

We keep data processing to the minimum the Service needs to run. There is no sign-up, no user account and no billing, so we do not ask you for a name, postal address or payment details.

Information we collect

We do not operate registration forms or account systems, so we do not collect names or email addresses.

Anonymous usage statistics. We use Vercel Analytics to count page views and understand roughly how the Service is used. It is designed to work without tracking cookies and without building a cross-site profile of you.

Technical server logs. Our hosting provider records standard request data — IP address, browser user-agent, requested path and time — in order to serve requests and to protect the Service against abuse. These logs are held by the hosting provider for a limited period.

Requests to third-party map and terrain services. When you preview a region, your browser requests map tiles and terrain data from the providers listed below. Those requests necessarily reveal your IP address and the geographic area you are viewing to the relevant provider.

Local preferences. Your theme, language and viewer settings are stored in your own browser. They are not transmitted to us.

How we use information

To operate and deliver the Service, including generating the terrain you request.

To keep the Service secure and available — for example by detecting abusive or automated traffic.

To understand aggregate usage so that we can improve the product. We do not use this data to make automated decisions about you.

Third-party services we rely on

The following providers either process data on our behalf or act as independent services when your browser contacts them directly:

Vercel, Inc. — hosting and content delivery for the Service, including the technical logs described above (vercel.com).

Vercel Analytics — anonymous, cookie-less usage statistics (vercel.com/analytics).

Cesium ion — terrain and imagery tiles used by the 3D preview; requests include the area being viewed (cesium.com/ion).

OpenFreeMap and OpenStreetMap — vector base-map tiles in the coverage map (openfreemap.org, openstreetmap.org).

Nominatim — place-name search used to resolve the location you type (nominatim.org).

Esri World Imagery — satellite imagery in the coverage map (esri.com).

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share data with third parties for their own advertising purposes.

Each provider handles data under its own privacy policy; we recommend reviewing it if you need details of their retention and processing.

Cookies and local storage

The Service does not set tracking or advertising cookies.

We use your browser’s local storage only for functional preferences: light/dark theme, interface language, and the view settings needed to reopen a shared link in the same state. You can clear it at any time through your browser settings, and the Service will continue to work.

Data retention

Because there are no accounts, we hold no user profile to retain.

Technical server logs are kept by our hosting provider for the limited period described in its documentation. Anonymous analytics data is retained in aggregate form and is not linked back to an individual visitor.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal data — for example under the EU/UK GDPR, the California CCPA/CPRA, or China’s PIPL. These commonly include the right to request access to data relating to you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent.

Because the Service does not create accounts, we normally hold no record that identifies you. Where a request concerns data held by one of the providers listed above, we will point you to the appropriate contact. To exercise any right, use the contact details at the end of this policy.

Children

The Service is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe that a child has provided data to us, please contact us so that we can address it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the Service evolves — for example when accounts or billing are introduced. The “last updated” date at the top of this page shows the current version. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
