About this place
Mount Elbrus rises to 5,642 m in the western Caucasus of Russia, in the republic of Kabardino-Balkaria, and is generally accepted as the highest mountain in Europe. It is a dormant volcano whose twin cones — the west summit at 5,642 m and the east at 5,621 m — are joined by a saddle at about 5,300 m and crowned with permanent snow and ice; its last eruption was roughly two thousand years ago. More than twenty glaciers spill from the massif and feed the Kuban, Baksan and Malka rivers. A cable car lifts climbers from the Baksan valley to the Garabashi station at 3,847 m, from where a long, non-technical but weather-exposed route passes the Priut 11 hut at 4,200 m and continues to the summit — the standard line on one of the Seven Summits. The first recorded ascent was made in 1874 by an English party led by Florence Crauford Grove, guided by the Balkar Akhiya Sottaev. Since the Greeks regarded the Caucasus as the edge of the world, tradition has often identified Elbrus with the peak where Zeus chained Prometheus.
How to use
For hiking & outdoor
Use the 3D view to read ridgelines, relief and the overall shape of the terrain before a trip. It is a static elevation model for reference only; it is not live navigation, routing or safety guidance.
For 3D printing
Download the model as STL, OBJ, DAE or Rhino 3DM and open it in your slicer or CAD tool. Files carry terrain geometry only; printability, scale and mesh quality depend on how you slice them and are not guaranteed here.
